Over 3 million customers use Maxima self-service checkouts this summer

This summer Maxima stores have had a record high number of customers who have chosen to pay at self-service checkouts. Compared to the summer of 2017, the number has increased by two and a half times.

“It is becoming more evident that there is a growing tendency among customers to take advantage of the convenience that Maxima offers with the self-service checkouts for easy and prompt payment for purchases. We are glad that what seemed like innovation is now already the standard for our customers, as evidenced by the increase in the number of purchases in the self-service checkouts - 157% compared to 2017. Also, the total number of purchases in the Maxima chain has grown by 3.4%. For this reason, we will offer our customers throughout Latvia even more opportunities to pay at self-service checkouts,” comments Maxima Latvija IT department director Mārtiņš Smilga.

The self-service checkouts are most often used for small purchases with an average of six products and an average sum of 7 - 8 euros. The highest average purchase sum per month this summer was in June in Ogre - 16.75 euros.

At present, self-service checkouts are available in 43 Maxima stores all over Latvia. From March to mid-August, investing more than one million euros, Maxima Latvija has introduced almost 80 self-service checkouts in Rīga, Salaspils, Jūrmala, Ikšķile, Ķekava, Limbaži and Saldus. This year it is planned to introduce self-service checkouts at another nine Maxima stores in Rīga, Valmiera and Iecava, thus providing an opportunity for even more customers to receive fast and convenient billing services.

The self-service checkouts of Maxima Latvija stores allow buyers to pay for their purchases with bank payment cards, including contactless payment cards, and in several stores at these registers it is also possible to pay in cash. In all self-service checkouts the buyers can earn deposits on their Paldies loyalty cards and also use these deposits when paying. It is also possible to pay using Maxima Latvija gift certificates and Uzņēmumu karte company cards.
