Latvians are Becoming More Open to Exotic Flavours

Since Maxima launched new Meistara Marka oriental food to go concept in the beginning of the summer, the demand this summer proves that Latvians are ready for changes in the pre-cooked meal assortment. Thai chicken curry is in top 3 most demanded meal of Meistara Marka assortment giving first two positions to meal with very deep roots in Latvian traditional eating habits - potatoes with meat patties and potatoes with goulash.

While analysing demand on salads, the traditional ones are still in the leading position - rasols, beetroot salad and cheese salad from the new Meistara Marka food concept. tHowever, not-so-usual Latvian salads like Greek with feta cheese and Caesar with chicken fillet also take high positions - 5th and 6th place in salad demand.

“Latvian customers are becoming more open to exotic variations in food, as indocated by the growing popularity of eastern flavours, such as curry and sushi. It motivates us to continue the search for oriental offers suitable for our loyal customer and expand our offer. This summer, the diversity of sushi in our stores has increased by 28% in comparison with the previous year,” says Vilnis Cīrulis, Director of the Food Production Department at Maxima Latvija.

From the broad assortment of sushi, top 3 sold sushi this summer as were Maki with fresh and baked salmon, Maki with tuna and cucumber and Nigiri with salmon. Another non-traditional Latvian dish has gained popularity - gyros - which is the best-selling snack in our news convenient store “Maxima Express”. The most popular choice of our clients this summer has been chicken gyros.

There are 28 new meals in Meistara Marka foot to go concept. The company “Maxima Latvia” has invested 200 000 euros in its new concept development. New food to go concepts represents a dynamic change of Maxima customers demands and their changing eating habbits. The new offer of Meistara Marka is based on traditional Latvian flavours, as well as the oriental food to go flavours around the world. Ingredients of new food concepts are mostly Latvian products, provided by local producers such as Ķekava Poultry Farm, Balticovo, Rīgas piena kombināts, Orkla Foods Latvija and others.
